The ENLIGHT Network, in which the UPV / EHU and the University of Bordeaux participate, has been recognized as a European University.

ENLIGHT is a European Network of universities to promote equitable quality of life, sustainability and global commitment through the transformation of higher education (European University Network to promote Equitable Quality of Life, Sustainability and Global Engagement through Higher Education Transformation - ENLIGHT)

ENLIGHT brings together 9 research-intensive universities with a solid reputation. In addition to UPV/EHU and the University of Bordeaux, the University of Ghent (Belgium), which acts as coordinator, the University of Göttingen (Germany), the University of Groningen (Netherlands), the University of Uppsala ( Sweden), the University of Tartu (Estonia), the Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), and the Galway National University of Ireland (Ireland). Together, ENLIGHT brings together a community of 312,500 students in 12 cities in all areas of Europe (north-south-east-west, coastal areas and continental areas).

This geographic, cultural, and linguistic diversity  (with 11 official languages) is one of ENLIGHT's great assets.

"ENLIGHT proposes to generate the bases of knowledge, skills and competences  so that students from all over Europe become globally committed citizens, capable of promoting an equitable quality of life and planetary sustainability".

ENLIGHT starts from the premise that higher education institutions (HEIs) have an important role to play in fostering the great social transitions we are facing: ecological, demographic, and digital. ENLIGHT proposes to generate the bases of knowledge, skills, and competences, as well as to deploy the educational innovation potential of the participating universities so that students from all over Europe become globally committed citizens, capable of promoting an equitable quality of life and planetary sustainability.

The nine universities share an education, research, and innovation agenda focused on five emblematic challenges, which are key determinants of social well-being and future sustainability and which affect at least 10 of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. These five challenges aim to address challenges in the areas of health and wellness, the digital revolution and the impact of digitization, climate change, energy use, and the circular economy, and equity.

ENLIGHT proposes a novel framework to address these complex challenges through partnerships between universities and relevant stakeholders both from local settings and from the international networks of each university. Thus, it also opens a great opportunity to enhance the value proposition of Euskampus, since both our Foundation, as well as Tecnalia and the DIPC, are part of the group of entities associated with ENLIGHT.

Our most sincere congratulations to the UPV / EHU and the University of Bordeaux for this great initiative that is bound to have a great impact.
