Newskampus Special Passion For Knowledge

The Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) is organising “Passion for Knowledge 2016", a festival to promote science as a key cultural activity that contributes to both social and economic progress. The festival will take place in San Sebastian between 27 September and 1 October 2016, and coincides with the European Capital of Culture which will be held in the city in 2016 as part of its official programme DSS2016EU.
The main venue for the festival will be the Teatro Victoria Eugenia, but parallel activities have also been scheduled in Bilbao and in the city of Bordeaux, organised within the framework of Euskampus, the International Campus of Excellence of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). The programme will be attended by several Nobel laureates and world-class experts who will give public lectures and meet with students. Among other things, there will also be a round table, an event to show the creative process of the bertsolaris (Basque verse singers) and a multidisciplinary show which crosses the boundaries between science and ideas, inspired and organised by the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), and the familiar Naukas sessions. Furthermore, there will be a photographic exhibition in the aquarium, and on the opening day of the festival there will be a dance show, Breaking Boundaries, as well as sculptures, sound and images which seek to break the boundaries between science and art.
Finally, it is important to note that this edition of Passion for Knowledge will also have an international summer school aimed at the scientific community with particular focus on young researchers: Dynapeutics. The school will focus on computational methods for studying biomolecules relevant to the optimisation of molecular drugs and will be attended by, among others, the Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry 2013, Martin Karplus, one of the most acknowledged speakers of the festival.

Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) erakundeak “Passion for Knowledge 2016" jaialdia antolatu du. Jaialdi horretan zientzia sustatu nahi da gizartearen eta ekonomiaren aurrerapenean laguntzen duen funtsezko kultura jarduera gisa. Jaialdia Donostian egingo da 2016ko irailaren 27tik urriaren 1era bitartean. Bat dator 2016. urtean Donostia Europako Kultur Hiriburua izatearekin eta hiriburutzaren DSS2016EU programa ofizialaren barnean hartzen da. 
Jaialdiaren egoitza nagusia Victoria Eugenia Antzokia izango da, baina jarduera paraleloak programatu dira Bilbon eta Bordelen, Euskampus Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatearen (UPV/EHU) Nazioarteko Bikaintasun Campusaren esparruan. Programan hainbat Nobel sari eta mundu osoko aditu sartu dira, hitzaldi irekiak egiteko eta ikasleekin elkartzeko. Horrez gain, programan barnean hartu dira, besteak beste, sormenari buruzko mahai inguru bat, bertsolarien sormen prozesua erakusteko ekitaldi bat eta zientziaren muga gainditzen duen diziplina anitzeko ikuskizun bat (Donostia International Physics Center -DIPC- erakundeak asmatua, sustatua eta antolatua). Gainera, Naukas-en saio ezagunak ere programatu dira. Era berean, Aquariumean argazki erakusketa bat egingo da, eta inaugurazioaren egunean Breaking Boundaries ikuskizuna aurkeztuko da. Zientziaren eta artearen arteko muga hautsi nahi duen ikuskizun horretan dantza, eskultura, soinua eta irudiak uztartzen dira. 
Azkenik, nabarmendu behar da Passion for Knowledge jaialdiaren ekitaldi honetan nazioarteko udako eskola bat ere antolatu dela, erkidego zientifikoari eta, batik bat, ikertzaile gazteei zuzentzen zaiena: Dynapeutics. Sendagai molekularrak optimizatzeko funtsezkoak diren biomolekulak aztertzeko metodo konputazionaletan oinarrituko da eskola hori. Eskolan parte hartuko dute Martin Karplus-ek, Kimika Nobel saria 2013an, eta jaialdiko hizlarietako batek. 
Antolatzaileek zehazki eskertu nahi izan dute jaialdia egitea posible egin duten erakundeen laguntza ekonomikoa: Eusko Jaurlaritza (Hezkuntza, Hizkuntza Politika eta Kultura Saila, Ekonomiaren Garapen eta Lehiakortasun Saila), Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundia, UPV/EHU, Donostiako Udala, Kutxa, Telefónica, EDP, CAF, FECYT (Zientzia eta Teknologiarako Espainiako Fundazioa), Ekonomia eta Lehiakortasun Ministerioa, eta Donostia/San Sebastián 2016 Europako Kultur Hiriburua Fundazioa, DSS2016. Jaialdian programatutako jarduera guztiak doakoak izango dira. El Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) organiza “Passion for Knowledge 2016", un festival para promover la ciencia como actividad cultural clave que contribuye además al progreso social y económico. El festival tendrá lugar en San Sebastián entre el 27 de septiembre y el 1 de octubre de 2016, coincidiendo con la celebración de la Capitalidad Europea de la Cultura que ostenta la ciudad este año 2016, e integrado en su programa oficial DSS2016EU.
La sede principal del festival será el Teatro Victoria Eugenia, pero también se han programado actividades paralelas en Bilbao y en la ciudad de Burdeos, organizadas en el marco de Euskampus, el Campus de Excelencia Internacional de la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU). El programa cuenta con la presencia de varios premios Nobel y expertos de talla mundial que ofrecerán conferencias abiertas y se reunirán con estudiantes. Además, también incluye, entre otros, una mesa redonda sobre creatividad, un evento para mostrar el proceso creativo de los bertsolaris y un espectáculo multidisciplinar que cruza la frontera entre ciencia e ideado, impulsado y organizado por el Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), o las ya conocidas sesiones de Naukas. Asimismo, habrá una Exposición Fotográfica en el Aquarium, y además el día de la inauguración del festival se presentará Breaking Boundaries, un espectáculo de danza, esculturas, sonido e imágenes que pretende romper la frontera entre ciencia y arte.
Por último, cabe destacar que esta edición de Passion for Knowledge también contará con una escuela de verano internacional dirigida a la comunidad científica y especialmente enfocada a jóvenes investigadores: Dynapeutics. La escuela se centrará en métodos computacionales para estudiar biomoléculas relevantes para la optimización fármacos moleculares y contará con la participación de, entre otros, Martin Karplus, Premio Nobel de Química 2013 y uno de los ponentes plenarios del festival.

Todas las actividades programadas durante el festival serán gratuitas. Se dispondrá de un servicio de interpretación al euskera, castellano e inglés, y las sesiones principales serán retransmitidas en directo por streaming a través de la web del festival.
