The meeting was opened by the Director of Sustainable Development of the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU: Estibaliz Saenz de Cámara. The staff and students from various disciplines (Pedagogy, Law, Engineering, Nursing, Business Studies, Criminology) held discussions on the topic of the Ocean and Plastics.

The workshop was hosted by Miguel Muñoz of SEO-BIRD, LIBERA project. During the first part of his speech, from a rather theoretical viewpoint, the concept of BASURALEZA-LITTERED NATURE was introduced, which enabled reflection on plastic pollution in the oceans, in a broader, multidisciplinary and complex way.

In the afternoon, a citizen’s science activity was scheduled: to collect plastics discarded on the beach and classify them using a mobile application that automatically generates a database.

To conclude, both students and teachers shared their insights and their End-of- Degree research projects, on which they are working within the framework of the Ocean i3 project.
