Researcher Teaching Workshop on Designing and Producing a Research Publication: Bordeaux, 12-13 December 2016

2016/12/16 09:18:00 GMT+1 Activities Euskampus Workshop

The fifth workshop for the Bordeaux-Euskampus Community of co-supervised PhDs and their supervisors was held in Bordeaux on the 12th and 13th of December 2016. The workshop was also opened to post-doc and other junior researchers. This workshop is the fifth one in a series of workshops designed to train young researchers in transversal skills, and it was focused on “Designing and Producing a Research Publication”.

As for many of the activities that make up doing research, preparing a good research publication is best done by designing it, rather than just sitting down and writing it.

Day One of the workshop introduced a basic understanding of how designing works, followed by a simple to learn design exercise using the Soma Cube Puzzle. Day Two covered the needed preparations to designing a research publication, how it can then be designed using the approach learned and practiced on Day One, followed by a short practical exercise to design the basic scheme for a research publication.

These workshops are unique opportunities and the best scenario to foster face-to-face conversations and discussion among young researchers and build a vibrant Euro-regional community as one of the main initiatives of the Euro-regional Campus of International Excellence between the University of the Basque Country and the University of Bordeaux. Fifteen researchers from the Basque Country and Bordeaux attended this workshop. Tim Smithers, an independent research practitioner based in the Basque Country, was the teacher of the workshop.
